Small Amethyst Skull – 263g

This small amethyst skull was carved by hand in Brazil from a single piece of natural Brazilian amethyst. It measures 7 cm and weighs 263 grams, which puts it right in the palm-sized range. Small enough to pick up and hold during meditation, substantial enough to hold its own on a shelf or altar.

The color is the first thing you notice. The base tone is a soft, translucent lavender, but the stone is not uniform. The crown carries a concentrated zone of deep violet that shows especially well from the back and top, where the dome is smooth and the polish is at its glassiest. Tilt the skull under a light source and that darker zone shifts against the paler face below it. This kind of natural color zoning is one of the traits collectors look for in amethyst, because it shows the stone formed in layers rather than being dyed or treated to an even tone.

Inside, thin white veils and cloudy patches move through the face, jaw, and base. There is also a small warm, iron-tinted inclusion low on one side of the jaw, a natural trace from the rock the amethyst grew in. These internal features catch light differently as you turn the piece, and like most translucent stones, this one shows more depth in person than photos can capture.

The carving itself is in the classic realistic style. The cranium is full and rounded, the brow and cheekbones are clearly defined, and the teeth are individually carved with clean separating lines. The polish is even across the whole piece, including the deeper cuts around the eyes and nose.

Amethyst has long been associated with calm, intuition, and restful energy, and this piece fits those associations in a very literal way. The soft lavender translucency gives it a quiet, settled character rather than an intense one, and at this size it works naturally as a stone to hold during meditation or keep beside the bed. Compared with darker, more opaque amethyst, a lighter translucent piece like this lets you see into the stone while you work with it, which many practitioners prefer.

For collectors, small skulls in this range are often the entry point into amethyst carvings, and a piece with genuine color zoning and visible internal life is a stronger start than an evenly colored commercial carving.
